Where to Stay in Dahab: Best Area and Our Honest Pick
For a first visit to Dahab, stay close to Lighthouse or the northern end of Mashraba. You can walk to the waterfront, restaurants, dive centres and cafés without relying on taxis. If you want a quieter, more local stay, look towards Assalah and Eel Garden.
We shared an apartment with friends for two nights and immediately wished we had booked longer. Dahab was the easiest place in Egypt for us to slip back into a little home normality: morning coffee, a gym session, work, dinner beside the water and everything close enough to walk.
Where should you stay in Dahab?
Choose the area before the hotel. Dahab stretches along the coast, and a cheap room can feel much less convenient if every coffee, meal or dive departure needs a taxi.
Lighthouse: best for a first visit
Lighthouse is the easiest all-round base. It is central, walkable and surrounded by cafés, restaurants and dive centres. This is where I would start looking if you have only a few nights or want the version of Dahab we loved most: simple days built around the water.
It can be busier and noisier than the northern areas, so read recent reviews if you are a light sleeper.
Mashraba: best for waterfront restaurants
Mashraba continues along the promenade south of Lighthouse. It suits travellers who want to step outside and be close to dinner, shops and the busier evening atmosphere.
The northern end keeps you close to the centre. Farther south can feel quieter, but check the exact walking route because accommodation descriptions use area names quite loosely.
Assalah and Eel Garden: best for a slower stay
Assalah feels more residential and is better for travellers staying longer, cooking or wanting a quieter rhythm. You still have local shops and cafés, but the walk to the busiest part of the promenade is longer.
This area would suit us for a week because we love having a kitchen and settling into daily life. Full-time travel stops feeling like a holiday if you eat out every night, so an apartment and nearby groceries genuinely matter to us.
Laguna: best for a resort-style break
Laguna is farther from the central promenade and suits travellers who want a pool, beach space and a more self-contained stay. I would choose it for a resort break, not for a short first trip centred on Dahab's cafés and walkable waterfront.
Where I would stay in Dahab
We were meeting friends in Dahab, so the four of us shared an apartment for two nights. It came to A$183.64 in total, around A$23 each per night, and having a kitchen and a living room to spread out in was exactly what we needed after the long drive from Hurghada.
If we went back as a couple, these are the three I would be choosing between. All of them sit on the stretch of coast we actually spent our time on, and I have picked one for each budget rather than sending you straight to the most expensive room.
Swiss Royal Dahab
The easiest cheap base that still feels like somewhere you want to come back to. Breakfast, a garden full of hammocks and bean bags, and free parking if you have driven in from Sharm.
Skyrock Dahab
The closest thing to the stay we had. Apartment-style rooms with a kitchenette, a private beach area and the promenade a few minutes away, so you can cook on a quiet night and walk to dinner on every other one.
Dar Dahab
The one I would book for a special trip. It is directly on the beach with a wooden sun deck over the water, calm minimal rooms and its own restaurant, which matters on the nights you cannot be bothered walking anywhere.
Read the newest reviews and compare the exact room before you book. Dahab changes quickly, and the view, kitchen setup and exact walking distance vary a lot between room types.
If you are travelling solo or want something cheaper and more social, it is worth comparing hostels and budget stays in the same area. I would still put location and recent cleanliness reviews ahead of saving a few dollars on a room far inland.

What location mattered most to us?
Walkability. After long travel days across Egypt, we loved not having to organise every movement. We could walk along the waterfront, find dinner and decide what we felt like doing without another driver or schedule.
Our favourite routine was coffee, a session at Hammer Gym, a little work and then dinner beside the sea. We ate at Nawaem with four people and spent 2,500 EGP on starters, mains and drinks, around A$20 each in October 2025. The duck with orange sauce was my favourite. We also loved Zanooba Slow Cooking and Grandpa's Kitchen.
How many nights should you book in Dahab?
Book at least four nights. Two nights was nowhere near enough after the long journey from Hurghada. We arrived exhausted after around nine to ten hours on the road and had only one full day.
Four nights gives you time for the Blue Hole, the waterfront and a slow day. Five to seven nights is better if you dive, work remotely or want the relaxed routine Dahab does so well. Our friends extended after we left, which says everything.
