Norway campsites: the places we stayed on our fjords trip
Download NorCamp and Park4Night before you go. We used both to find places to stop on our Norway campervan trip, then checked the reviews before heading over. These are our ten overnight stops, in the order we stayed.
We spent nine nights in paid campsites and one free night near Undredal. Geiranger, Mjelva and Løken were our top three for the setting; Dombås had our favourite facilities.
How we found our campsites
We used NorCamp and Park4Night to look along our route, then checked the photos, facilities and recent reviews. Google reviews helped too. The apps helped us find places; we checked in and paid with the campsite itself. It’s worth checking arrival arrangements if you’ll get there after reception closes.
Prices are from our September 2026 trip, for our campervan and the two of us. They aren’t current quotes, so check with each campsite before you travel.
1. Garen Camping
Location: Eidfjord / Hardangervidda
We paid: 440 NOK; showers extra.
A handy first stop after the drive from Oslo. We arrived late, made dinner in the van and had the showers, toilets and water refill we needed.
2. Sundal Camping
Location: Sunndal, Maurangerfjord
We paid: 340 NOK; showers extra.
This was our stop after walking to Bondhusvatnet. Mountains, waterfalls and the fjord right beside the van. The showers were spotless, really hot and had amazing pressure.

3. Our free overnight stop near Undredal
Location: Near Undredal
We paid: Free.
We did one night of wild camping between Sundal and Løken, near Undredal. We found the parking spot through the apps and stayed for the night. Check signs and local overnight-parking rules, respect private land and leave no trace. An app pin isn’t permission to stay.

4. Løken Camping
Location: Olden, by the lake
We paid: 310 NOK recorded for the two of us.
One of our favourites. We parked right beside the lake, with mountains all around us. Waking up to the clouds clearing over the water was so lovely.

5. Geiranger Camping
Location: Geirangerfjord
We paid: 400 NOK.
We loved being right by the fjord and close to the little town. Our pitch had a deck, so we could cook dinner and sit outside with that view. One of our top three.

6. Mjelva Camping & Cabins
Location: Near Åndalsnes
We paid: 350 NOK.
The mountains here were unreal. We sat outside for a while just taking it all in, and the kitchen and showers were really handy. Another of our favourite stops.

7. Domaas Gård, Dombås
Location: Dombås
We paid: 480 NOK, including showers.
Our favourite facilities of the trip. The shower rooms were spacious and private, and showers were included in the price. We also had a lovely view over the valley and the autumn trees.

8. Otta Camping og Motell
Location: Otta, beside the river
We paid: 400 NOK, including a short shower each.
We found a spot right beside the river and woke up to sunshine. Good facilities and a lovely setting. I’d happily stay here again if we were passing through Otta.

9. First Camp Beitostølen
Location: Beitostølen, Valdres
We paid: 395 NOK, including the facilities.
The playground, flying fox and mini golf looked great for families. It felt more like a big caravan park than our smaller scenic stops, but the showers and practical facilities were good.

10. Valdres Camping
Location: Leira, Valdres
We paid: 430 NOK, including a shower each.
Such a peaceful last night in the van. We were right on the water, surrounded by autumn trees, and arrived early enough to sit outside and enjoy it. A lovely place to finish.

Plan your Norway loop
We hired Posty through MyCamper. Our Norway Fjords guide puts the overnight stops, driving route and places we visited together. You can also read our full road-trip route and Norway spending breakdown.

The campsites we’d go back to
Overall, we loved every campsite we stayed at. If I had to pick three, Geiranger, Mjelva and Løken would be the ones I’d go back to first. Dombås wins for the facilities, though! Waking up somewhere different in the van each morning was such a special part of this trip.
Have the best trip,
Ellen x
