Norway road trip costs: our spending, explained
Norway wasn't a trip where we stopped buying coffee or skipped every bakery to save money. We cooked in the van, paid for campsites and still made room for the things we loved. I've pulled our spending apart so you can see where the money went, rather than giving you one neat number that leaves half the trip out.
Our Norway-coded TravelSpend records total A$1,565.01 across 59 entries from 16 to 27 September 2026. Those entries are Daniel's allocated share of day-to-day spending. They are not an all-in price for our couple's trip, and they do not include a paid campervan rental.
The number and what it means
I would rather show that clearly than give you a lovely-looking daily budget that falls apart when you start booking. The van, our separate Oslo stay and the overnight ferry need their own lines. Later charges can also arrive after a road trip has finished.

Where the recorded spending went
The original categories were restaurants A$232.25, drinks A$48.30, transportation A$433.43, coffee A$135.76, activities A$422.11 and groceries A$293.16. Together they make the A$1,565.01 allocation. Campsites and gyms sit inside the activities category in this export, so that figure is not simply money spent on sightseeing.
We cooked in the van and still bought coffee and pastries. Food stops were part of the trip we wanted, rather than something we removed from the budget entirely. Sødahlhuset, Vik Bakeri and Flåm were memorable parts of the route. A small fridge also meant thinking a few meals ahead rather than shopping as if we had a full kitchen.

Campsite examples from our trip
Three campsite figures make the allocation easier to understand. Our Mjelva entry was 175 NOK per person, or 350 NOK for the vehicle booking. Dombås was 240 NOK each, or 480 NOK for two. Otta was 200 NOK each, or 400 NOK for two. These are historical September 2026 examples, not current advertised tariffs.
Always check whether a quoted price includes electricity, showers and any other services you need. Where our spoken notes and ledger don't agree exactly, I haven't turned them into a precise comparison. Check the campsite directly for your own dates rather than building a tight budget around our old price.

The separate bookings and later charges
Our Oslo accommodation record was A$316.19 for two, and the overnight ferry record was A$452.18 for two. Keep accommodation and cabin bookings separate from food or drinks bought during those stays, and check for overlap before adding totals.
There is also a later A$116 toll and extra-mileage entry coded to Denmark even though it relates to the road trip. That is exactly why filtering a spending app by country can miss something. I have kept it outside the Norway-coded total because its allocation needs to be checked before treating it as another per-person charge.

Build a budget for your trip
Start with your actual campervan quote from MyCamper or the provider you choose. Add the number of paid campsite nights, then fuel, parking, ferries, tolls and possible excess mileage. Give yourself separate amounts for groceries and eating out, because those are the easiest parts to adjust to how you travel.
Keep a buffer for costs that settle after you return the van. If you arrive in Oslo before pickup or leave by an overnight ferry, include those bookings too. Only divide the final total by your trip length after deciding which days and expenses it covers. Our ten campervan nights were part of a longer arrival-and-departure sequence, not the whole journey.
