Flåm and Undredal: two stops on our Norway road trip
Undredal and Flåm gave us two very different little stops, and I'm glad we made time for both. Undredal was all colourful houses and fjord views, while Flåm came with a bakery stop we were very ready for. This is how we fitted them into the drive, without turning the day into a list of paid activities.
Undredal and Flåm worked nicely as part of our moving fjords route. Undredal gave us a village wander and fjord views. Flåm gave us a bakery stop we were very ready for. We didn't need to book an activity in each place to enjoy them.
Two different stops along the same journey
I would think of them as two stops with different moods, rather than choosing one as a complete substitute for the other. How much time to spend depends on your onward route and where you need to sleep that evening.

Undredal for the village and fjord
Undredal was a lovely place to get out of the van and wander. The colourful buildings and mountains beside the water made it feel very different from simply stopping at another roadside viewpoint. Our village photographs are from that visit.
Allow time to find appropriate parking and walk around without a deadline. A small village isn't the place to assume a campervan can fit into any gap. Follow local signs and leave access clear for the people who live there.
Our Flåm bakery stop
Flåm came with pastries and coffee. One of our buns was cardamom, which is worth saying because it would be very easy to turn every bakery stop in this trip into a cinnamon-bun review! The bakery and the scenery around it made a simple stop feel special.
If you're following a similar route, check current opening hours before counting on it for breakfast. I'd keep something in the van as well. A bakery stop is much more fun when it is a treat rather than the only food option you have left.

What we did, and what needs a separate plan
We didn't ride the Flåm Railway or take a fjord cruise here on this trip. Those need their own booking and time allocation if they're important to you. Our account is about the village and bakery stops we actually fitted into the campervan journey.
Don't use a short stop in our route as proof that you can add a major activity and still reach the same campsite comfortably. Check the activity's return time, then work backwards from your overnight arrival arrangements.
Keep moving along the route
Our onward journey took us through the Lærdal corridor and the Fodnes–Mannheller ferry towards Fjærland and the glacier viewpoint. Ferry waits and village stops make a day longer than its driving estimate, so leave breathing room.
Løken Camping was a lovely later overnight stop on our loop. Choose your night around the route you can comfortably cover rather than driving back to Flåm after moving well beyond it. The full guide links the places in the order we travelled and lets you adjust your own days.

Frequently asked questions
Did we ride the Flåm Railway?
No. Our visit was a village and bakery stop. The railway requires a separate booking and time allocation.
Was the Flåm bun cinnamon?
One of our buns was cardamom. We have kept that distinct from the cinnamon buns elsewhere on the trip.
