The best eSIM for travel, and my code
If there's one thing that makes arriving in a new country a hundred times easier, it's landing with data already working. No airport SIM queue, no hunting for a kiosk, no being offline for your first taxi. After testing more eSIMs than I'd like to admit across 47 countries, this is the setup I actually use.
Why I switched to an eSIM
Physical SIMs are slow to find, easy to lose, and a pain to swap when you're crossing borders every few days. An eSIM installs before you fly, activates the moment you land, and keeps your home number active for two factor codes. For a full time traveller that's a non negotiable.
SIM Local eSIM
Great coverage across Europe and beyond, easy top ups, and it just works the second you land. Use my code for money off your first plan.
How to set it up before you fly
- Buy and install the eSIM a day or two before you travel.
- Leave it switched off until you land, then toggle it on.
- Keep your home SIM for calls and two factor codes, use the eSIM for data.
- Download offline maps before you go, wifi can be patchy in a lot of places.
What it costs
Far less than roaming, and you only pay for the data you need. I usually grab a regional plan for longer trips and a small country plan for quick stops. Honestly it's one of the cheapest things that makes the biggest difference.
That's it. Sort your data before you fly and the rest of the trip feels effortless. If you grab the eSIM through my code above it helps keep these guides free, at no extra cost to you.
